Giants RB Cam Skattebo Almost Retired After Season-Ending Injury Last Year

Cam Skattebo's first NFL season with the New York Giants came to an abrupt end when he suffered a season-ending leg injury in Week 8. The rookie running back suffered a series of severe injuries - an open ankle fracture, dislocation, fractured fibula, and torn deltoid ligament - during the Giants' game against the Philadelphia Eagles. In a recent interview with NFL reporter Kay Adams, Skattebo revealed that the injury made him contemplate quitting the sport.

He explained that initially, the first month after the injury was a tough time, wondering if he truly wanted to continue playing. However, as he recovered and played seven more games, he decided to persevere. Skattebo revealed that he had set a personal rule: if he ever sustained a major injury, he would retire. Unfortunately, this rule came into play seven games into his NFL career.

Before his injury, Skattebo had made a significant impact on the field. He rushed for 410 yards and scored five touchdowns, while also contributing as a receiver with 24 catches for 207 yards and two scores. Despite his season-ending injury, Skattebo continues to play for the Giants, who will kick off their 2026 season with a Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys on September 13.
