Ghana reappoints Queiroz to lead Black Stars two months after stepping down

Carlos Queiroz, the 73-year-old former assistant manager at Manchester United, has been reappointed as head coach of Ghana's national team. He initially took charge of the Black Stars in April and guided them to the last 32 at the 2022 Fifa World Cup, where they were defeated 1-0 by Colombia. Following their loss, Queiroz appeared to announce his departure via social media, but the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has decided to retain him for another term.

The GFA has not disclosed the duration of his new contract but stated that Queiroz will prepare the team for a successful period on the international stage. The GFA believes Queiroz's extensive international experience, technical skills, and knowledge of the Black Stars' position make him an ideal candidate to lead the team into this new phase.

Queiroz, who has previously managed Iran, Portugal, and Egypt, among other nations, will begin his second spell with Ghana just in time for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which start later in the month. The team will compete in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, The Gambia, and Somalia. The GFA will soon announce the specifics of his mandate.
