From shy fourth grader to head boy: Rashid’s final year at Qatar Academy Al Wakra

Rashid al-Ghafri, who started his education at Qatar Academy Al Wakra as a shy fourth grader, will complete his final year as the head boy of the prestigious institution. Reflecting on this important year, he describes it as both "bittersweet", as he prepares for his future and says goodbye to a place that has played a significant role in shaping who he is today.

The change in his personality from introverted to a leader, such as deputy head boy and now head boy, is a result of the opportunities Qatar Academy Al Wakra provided him. These included opportunities to travel, lead school events, and participate in initiatives like the Green Flag Award. Rashid's greatest memory from his time at the school was representing Qatar at the Global Peace Summit in Thailand, where he met war survivors and connected with like-minded peers.

This experience instilled a sense of duty in him and inspired him to strive for excellence in all aspects of life. Despite initially hesitating about the value of volunteering, Rashid now sees it as a duty and has volunteered at various school and international events. When asked what he will miss most upon graduation, he chooses the teachers who have known him since he was a child, rather than the accolades.
