Fire blazes in document storage room at Bangkok university

A fire erupted in a document storage room on the eighth floor of King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok early Thursday, resulting in substantial damage but no reported casualties. The 199 emergency hotline received notification at 6:47 AM, with the blaze situated on Pracharat Sai 1 Road in the Bang Sue district of the university.

Firefighters and rescue personnel from Bang Pho Fire and Rescue Station responded, encountering dense smoke originating from the eighth floor. They swiftly contained the flames and cleared smoke from the seventh and eighth floors.

Preliminary examination revealed the fire ignited within the document storage room, causing extensive damage to documents and other materials. Police are currently probing the origin of the fire. This blaze is the most recent in a series of building fires that have plagued Bangkok in recent weeks. On August 28, a fire at Klong Thom Center resulted in 11 injuries and considerable structural damage, temporarily closing the facility while investigators determined the cause. Preliminary damage estimates totaled millions of baht.

Bangkok has also experienced fires in residential and office structures throughout the past year, including a blaze that trapped residents in a 38-story condominium tower and a fire at a commercial building on Sukhumvit Soi 8, leaving two American tourists injured. In most instances, such as Thursday’s incident at KMUTNB, fire crews have successfully contained the fire to a single floor or area of the building before it could escalate further.
