Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria Commissions New Lagos Headquarters

On Tuesday, September 1st, the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC) unveiled its new headquarters, FRC House, in Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos. This significant development underscores the Council's dedication to enhancing Nigeria's financial reporting and corporate governance landscape. The event saw a host of dignitaries, including the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, represented by Dr. Tope Fasua, and the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole.

Vice President Fasua stressed that this inauguration aligns with President Tinubu's vision of building a Nigerian state with institutions that can confidently participate in the global marketplace. He praised FRC's leadership and staff for recognizing that institutional building is an ongoing process, not a one-time event. Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, in her keynote address, emphasized that trust is the most valuable asset for a regulator, and the new headquarters should embody credibility, competence, responsiveness, and confidence in the governing rules and institutions.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu highlighted that operating from a permanent location would bolster the regulatory agency's efficiency and oversight, thereby fostering public trust in its ability to fulfill its responsibilities. The eight-storey building, designed to reflect the Council's importance, was dedicated to eight key individuals and groups who have contributed to financial reporting and economic development.

These include the Dr. Jumoke Oduwole Centre for Corporate Governance, the Jim Obazee Inspections and Investigations Meeting Room, and others.

Dr. Rabiu Olowo, Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, underscored the significance of a permanent headquarters in representing the institution's permanence, stability, institutional memory, independence, and dignity. He acknowledged the collective efforts and sacrifices of those who have shaped the Council over the years.

The commissioning of FRC House symbolizes the Council's ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, high-quality financial reporting, and fostering trust in Nigeria's financial ecosystem.
