Fernandez sends two deep; RailRiders win 9-2

The RailRiders narrowly secured a 9-2 victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Wednesday night, pulling within two games of first place in the MiLB International League. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre opened the scoring with four runs in the first inning, displaying no signs of trailing throughout the game. Jasson Dominguez initiated the scoring with a single to right field, followed by Jarred Kelenic's hit, which brought in Anthony Volpe.

Marco Luciano then scored on a double play, making it a tense moment for the I-Pigs. Oswaldo Cabrera sealed the scoring for the RailRiders with a fielder's choice, resulting in the fourth run. Yanquiel Fernandez, known for his performance with Double-R, contributed a total of four runs driven in during the game, leading the team with a 23rd and 24th place finish this season.

The DH went on to bat 3-for-4, including two home runs and four RBI. New York Yankees pitcher Clark Schmidt started the game, marking his second rehab start since undergoing elbow surgery last July. Schmidt pitched 2.0 innings, striking out three batters while allowing only one run on three hits. The RailRiders now stand 1.5 games behind Rochester for the top spot in the league. They will commence a series next week against the first-place Red Wings in Rochester, New York.
