Fenerbahce players Guendouzi, Greenwood charged by UEFA after Champions League playoff at Lyon

According to UEFA, Mattéo Guendouzi and Mason Greenwood have been charged for their alleged offensive behavior towards Lyon fans during a Champions League playoff match in Lyon. Both players, who previously played for Lyon's French rivals Marseille, were seen making provocative gestures in the buildup to the match and after it concluded.

Guendouzi was seen raising his middle finger, shouting "Go Marseille," and grabbing his crotch in post-match scenes. He claimed that Lyon fans had insulted his family during the game. The disciplinary hearing's outcome is yet to be determined, and it remains unclear if UEFA will impose any sanctions before Fenerbahce begins the Champions League main phase on October 7, when they host Roma.

Fenerbahce's next match is scheduled for October 14 against Aston Villa. The club's legal team has stated that they will protect the rights and interests of the players and the club. Both players joined Fenerbahce in the offseason as part of the team's significant investment following its decline in recent years compared to city rival Galatasaray.

Fenerbahce has not won the Turkish league since 2014 and bolstered its squad by signing Romelu Lukaku, Nathan Aké, and N'Golo Kanté.
