Dungeons & Dragons Live-Action Series ‘Ravenloft’ In Works At Netflix From John August, Alfonso Cuarón & Hasbro, Succeeds ‘The Forgotten Realms’

Netflix is developing a live-action "Dungeons & Dragons" series titled "Ravenloft," according to TheWrap. The project, written and executive produced by John August, will be brought to life by Gabriel Marano and Alfonso Cuarón, Richard Schwartz, and Gaby Rodriguez. "Ravenloft" is described as a prestige fantasy series that explores the creation of the vampire Darklord Strahd von Zarovich, a character known for his power, love, obsession, and undead transformation.

August, who has a history of working on gothic films including "Big Fish," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Corpse Bride," and "Frankenweenie," will infuse the series with his signature style. The show is set to expand Netflix's expanding fantasy lineup, which already includes "Stranger Things," "Wednesday," "One Piece," and "Avatar: The Last Airbender."

"Ravenloft" and Strahd have made notable appearances in the "Stranger Things" universe, particularly in the series' final season. As part of Hasbro Entertainment's strategy to produce content based on its iconic brands and games, the series is also part of their growing slate of projects based on Dungeons & Dragons. Other D&D-related projects include the 2023 film "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" and "The Forgotten Realms."

Hasbro is also developing a drama series "Baldur's Gate" for HBO, which is based on their video game franchise. Lastly, "The Last of Us" creator Craig Mazin is leading a similar series for HBO.
