Dodgers pitcher who shined in World Series will not return this regular season

Will Klein, a surprise hero for the Los Angeles Dodgers during their two World Series championship runs, is unlikely to return for the regular 2026 season. Klein shined in Game 3 of the 2025 Fall Classic with four scoreless innings, leading to the Dodgers clinching the championship in the bottom of the 18th inning. This performance earned him a spot on the active roster for the 2026 season.

However, after the All-Star break, Klein's performance took a turn for the worse, allowing nine runs across 4 1/3 innings and raising his ERA to 3.67. In response, Los Angeles placed him on the 15-day injured list on August 1 due to right elbow discomfort and loose bodies in his elbow. Klein has been working on a throwing progression, but he hasn't made enough progress to convince the team of his return capability in September.

Consequently, the Dodgers have moved him to the 60-day injured list ahead of the game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, effectively ending his regular season. While Klein remains an option for October, his future depends on his health throughout the rest of the season. His transfer to the 60-day injured list clears the way for right-hander Blake Treinen to return, who has October experience and will likely replace Klein in the bullpen immediately.
