Delhi Holiday On September 11 For BRICS Summit: Govt Offices, PSUs To Remain Closed

On September 11, 2026, central government offices in Delhi and New Delhi will be closed as part of preparations for the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit. The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions announced this decision on Thursday, citing the summit's scale, extensive logistics, and the need to limit public inconvenience as the primary reasons.

The Delhi government also declared the date a holiday for all government offices, autonomous bodies, and public sector undertakings under its jurisdiction. The summit will take place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from September 11 to 13, with leaders from around 30 BRICS member and partner countries expected to attend. The closure aims to facilitate the extensive security and traffic arrangements required for the event, which is scheduled to be attended by heads of international organizations and business representatives from BRICS nations.

September 12 and 13 fall on a Saturday and Sunday, respectively. India assumed the BRICS chairmanship in 2026 on January 1, with the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability," emphasizing a people-centric approach. Over 350 meetings and high-level engagements have been held in over 25 cities under India's chairmanship, focusing on strengthening cooperation in political, security, economic, financial, cultural, and people-to-people domains.
