Customers left out of pocket after bike shop suddenly closes down

Customers are facing financial difficulties after Primera Sports, a family-owned bike shop in Bournemouth, suddenly closed its doors after 34 years of operation. The company informed customers that they would not receive fulfilled orders due to the company's entry into liquidation. Leonard Curtis, an insolvency firm, confirmed that Primera is being liquidated, and the company's directors decided to cease trading due to mounting financial pressure.

Some customers paid deposits for bikes, but the company is unable to fulfill these orders and cannot issue refunds, as credit card protection provisions allow customers to obtain refunds only when a retailer fails to deliver goods. Over the weekend, it was reported that some customer bikes taken for maintenance were trapped inside the closed Primera store.

Professional mountain biker Ben Moore initiated a campaign on social media platforms to help customers recover their bikes, expressing concerns over customers losing their deposits and money. The owners of the Giant store in Poole eventually stepped in to help a customer by providing a replacement bike. Primera Sports opened in Bournemouth in 1992 and operated two additional stores in Poole and an e-bike shop, all of which have now closed due to various factors, including increasing operating costs, competition from online and lower-cost cycle repair businesses, and reduced consumer spending on non-essential goods.
