Colts name 5 players 2026 team captains, including a first-timer

Indianapolis – The Indianapolis Colts have announced the five players who will serve as team captains for the 2026 season. Head coach Shane Steichen revealed the selection after practice, noting that it was decided through a player vote. The five captains include head quarterback Daniel Jones, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, guard Quenton Nelson, safety Camryn Bynum, and running back Jonathan Taylor.

Jones, who previously held the title in his first six seasons with the New York Giants, will continue his streak of being named a team captain for the Colts with his eighth such honor. Buckner extends his eight-year tenure as a team captain, while Nelson extends his six-year streak. Taylor, on the other hand, secures his third distinction as a team captain, having previously been honored in 2022 and 2024.

Bynum, a first-timer in his six-year career, will take on the role as the team's leader for the upcoming season, having led the team in interceptions at safety in the previous campaign. The Colts' newest captain, Camryn Bynum, will also be responsible for relaying the defense's playcalling from defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo to the rest of the defense.

Coach Steichen expressed his excitement for the new captains, acknowledging the honor they have been bestowed with by their teammates.
