Chatsworth mother seeks answers after son’s body found in Higginson Highway drain

A Chatsworth mother, Elizabeth Chetty, is searching for answers after her son, Nigel Chetty, 54, was discovered dead in a stormwater drain on July 13. Nigel, from Westcliff, was found without his trousers, which had been used to bind his legs. His mother became aware of his death over a week later after identifying his body at the Pinetown mortuary.

Initially, Nigel's girlfriend informed Chetty that he had gone missing and was last seen at a betting venue in Chatsworth on July 18. Upon learning of his death, Chetty immediately began searching for her son at the police station and hospital, only to discover his body a day later. The circumstances surrounding his death have left many unanswered questions, particularly the manner in which his legs were bound and the neck and eye injuries he sustained.

Chetty believes her son was unexpectedly attacked from behind, killed, and then dumped into the drain. Nigel, the eldest of five children, had a distinguished career in the South African Navy and later worked in the taxi industry and as a private chef. His mother, filled with a desire for justice, is determined to uncover the truth behind her son's death and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
