Canada lists foreign worker categories exempt from work permits

The Canadian government has announced categories of foreign workers who may work in the country without obtaining a work permit. However, exemption does not guarantee entry or a work permit in every case, and applicants must comply with specific conditions.

Exempt categories include academics, business visitors, emergency workers, military personnel, athletes, students, and religious leaders. Specific exemptions cover examiners and evaluators, public speakers, short-term researchers, business visitors, convention organizers, emergency and transportation-related professionals, foreign government representatives, United Nations representatives, expert witnesses, family members of diplomats, military personnel, athletes, coaches, judges, referees, news reporters, media crews, certain performing artists, healthcare students, recent Canadian graduates, eligible full-time students, and certain short-term study permit holders.

While these exemptions help, travel restrictions still apply, and travellers may need a visitor visa or eTA before entering Canada.
