Call A-Plus to order – Effutu Traditional Council tells gov’t after deadly New Winneba clash

The Effutu Traditional Council has urged the government to caution Member of Parliament Kwame Asare Obeng, commonly referred to as A-Plus, from making statements that could exacerbate tensions between Effutu and Gomoa communities. Ebo Ghartey, the Chief of Staff to the Effutu Omanhene, has warned political leaders against making uncontrolled comments that could spark further unrest and impede the ongoing efforts to restore calm after the recent violence at New Winneba.

This comes after A-Plus warned residents of Gomoa that if the police fails to adequately protect them following the deadly clashes, they could take collective action, including giving the government a seven-day ultimatum after which chiefs across Gomoa would be convened to adopt a unified stance on the matter. Ghartey cautioned against such pronouncements as they could further escalate tensions at a time when peace and stability restoration is being prioritized in the affected communities.

The incident at New Winneba, which left three people dead and 19 others injured, has been a source of intense controversy. At a press conference, Ghartey emphasized the need for restraint from community and political leaders in their public pronouncements, warning that the situation could deteriorate if such statements continue.

Nenyi Apraku, the Chief of Effutu Ayipe, also appealed to politicians to utilize their positions to foster development and peaceful coexistence between Effutu and Gomoa communities, rather than making comments that could incite further conflict.

Meanwhile, the Abusuapanin of New Winneba, William De-Carthia, has dismissed claims that the three individuals who lost their lives in the attack were killed by Effutu youth. He described these allegations as false and called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths before assigning blame.
