Blizzard Might Be Teasing A New StarCraft Game

Odd behavior has been detected on the StarCraft website. The site, which primarily showcases StarCraft Remastered, launched in 2017, now exhibits flickering elements, images, and text blocks. It's possible that Blizzard is hinting at a new StarCraft game. Earlier this year, a report claimed that Blizzard had teamed up with Korean gaming giant Nexon to create a new StarCraft shooter.

However, Blizzard did not respond to these claims at the time, and the partnership remains unverified. Nonetheless, a recent South Korean newspaper, Chosun, reported that Nexon is seeking a license to develop a new StarCraft game. Additionally, a 2024 job posting suggests that Blizzard might be working on its own new StarCraft game, led by ex-Far Cry executive producer Dan Hay, who joined the company in 2022.

The resumption of BlizzCon on September 12, after a three-year break, could also signal big news from Blizzard, beyond their existing franchises. A noticeable one-hour gap in the BlizzCon day-one mainstage programming adds more fuel to the speculation. StarCraft as a franchise has been dormant since 2017's original game remaster, which will mark its 30th anniversary in 2028.

StarCraft 2 launched in 2010, with its expansions concluding in 2015. Legendary vaporware third-person shooter StarCraft: Ghost was announced in 2002 and later confirmed to be cancelled in 2014. The duration of the glitch effect on the StarCraft website remains unknown, but it hasn't been widely reported yet. While the source of this tease remains unclear, it could pertain to Blizzard's own game, the potential partnership with Nexon, or even StarCraft 3.
