Anna Hazare recovering, hospital stay extended

Mumbai's Anna Hazare, the 89-year-old social activist, is recovering from a renal infection and will remain hospitalized for an additional two days, his aide revealed on Thursday. The activist was admitted to Bombay Hospital in southern Mumbai on Monday night after his blood tests revealed signs of a renal infection. Despite showing signs of improvement, Hazare is not fully recovered, according to doctors.

Hospital staff have advised Hazare to rest more while undergoing treatment. On Wednesday, his associates were informed that he would stay at Bombay Hospital for two more days under observation. However, this stay has been extended until he fully recovers, the aide confirmed.

On Tuesday, consultant physician Dr Gautam Bhansali stated that Hazare was stable and recovering. The anti-corruption crusader was initially brought to Mumbai from his hometown of Ralegan Siddhi in the Ahilyanagar district, where he had first been admitted to a local medical facility for treatment. He had previously recovered from the infection in Ahilyanagar before being shifted to Mumbai.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met with Hazare at the hospital on Tuesday evening to inquire about his health. Hazare, a Padma Bhushan recipient, is a prominent activist who has led multiple movements over the years to promote rural development, improve transparency in government functioning, and curb corruption.
