Anker makes Matter smarthome bid with MindBase hub and NAS

Anker has introduced a new hub called MindBase that aims to serve as the brain of a comprehensive home security system. This hub is set to store camera footage locally instead of uploading it to the cloud, enabling it to process and analyze the footage directly on the device. The MindBase acts as the central hub for the eufy ecosystem, integrating all devices, including Matter-enabled products from other brands, into a single system.

This eliminates the need for managing multiple apps for separate devices, providing a unified platform for monitoring and control.

The standout feature of MindBase is its dedicated AI chip, dubbed the TrueSmart Agent. This chip processes events locally, enabling real-time recognition of faces, posture, behavior, and objects, without transmitting the data to external servers first. This local processing is expected to lead to faster and more reliable alerts.

Additionally, MindBase functions as a personal home library, consolidating all captured photos, videos, and clips into a secure local repository. The built-in NAS agent automatically organizes the media into a chronological timeline, generates highlight reels, and facilitates quick retrieval of specific moments using voice commands.

Spec-wise, MindBase offers 64GB of internal storage, alongside two additional bays for connecting external hard drives, accommodating up to 20 camera channels and 34 sensors. It also supports various smart home platforms, including HomeKit, Alexa, Google Home, and Home Assistant. The best part is that the hub does not come with any monthly subscription fee, although enabling certain cloud features like push notifications with thumbnails will result in minimal data transmission.

If Anker's implementation succeeds, MindBase could emerge as one of the most intelligent home security hubs on the market, capable of understanding and interpreting the events it captures, rather than merely recording them.
