AMA announces Post-Homowo clean-up exercise for September 5

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has unveiled a Post-Homowo clean-up exercise, scheduled for September 5, 2026, within the framework of National Sanitation Day in Accra. The operation, set to commence at 6:00 a.m. and conclude by noon, aims to restore tidiness to key thoroughfares, marketplaces, lorry parks, public arenas, and neighborhoods within the city.

AMA officials outline that the endeavor will encompass clearing and uprooting vegetation along road medians, disposing of waste, mopping public venues, clearing curbs, and carrying out a comprehensive cleaning of principal roads and commercial zones.

AMA emphasizes a concentrated effort on Graphic Road and the segment of J.J. Rawlings Avenue running from Kwame Nkrumah Circle up to Avenor and Caprice, extending to Abeka Junction, alongside other locales pinpointed as needing immediate sanitation improvement. To facilitate a seamless operation, the Assembly warns that shops, stalls, tabletop businesses, and other trading endeavors should remain shuttered during the exercise.

The organization calls upon residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to fully engage in the clean-up, emphasizing its role in bolstering environmental sanitation, mitigating public health concerns, and augmenting Accra's visual appeal. The clean-up is also anticipated to contribute to safer road routes and foster a sense of collective responsibility among dwellers and enterprises for preserving a pristine Accra.
