Alfa Laval expands PureBallast 3 Ultra portfolio with new skid solution for faster, simpler installation

Alfa Laval introduces PureBallast 3 Ultra Skid, a skid-mounted variant of its PureBallast 3 Ultra ballast water management system. Created upon customer demand, this skid minimizes footprint and installation time while retaining the system’s proven biological treatment capabilities. At SMM 2026, Alfa Laval expands the PureBallast 3 Ultra portfolio, providing customers the flexibility to select an installation approach that aligns with their vessel design and shipyard preferences, all while maintaining top-tier ballast water treatment performance.

In response to the decreasing shipyard installation time pressure and the need for more standardized solutions, Alfa Laval has developed the PureBallast 3 Ultra Skid. This prefabricated, factory-assembled solution offers a compact, preassembled skid with stripped-down piping, tested and ready for immediate installation. By receiving a standardized module instead of assembling individual components onboard, shipyards can substantially cut engineering effort and installation complexity.

The PureBallast 3 Ultra Skid incorporates the same advanced treatment technology as PureBallast 3 Ultra, performing chemical-free biological disinfection through high-performance filtration and enhanced UV treatment. This technology effectively handles fresh, brackish, and marine waters, including low-clarity conditions. As maritime environmental regulations become stricter, this performance across a wide range of water conditions ensures vessel compliance wherever they operate.

With a compact skid design, the system optimizes energy consumption while minimizing the overall system footprint. Engineered entirely by Alfa Laval, the skid is delivered fully assembled, factory-tested, and ready for connection, simplifying installation, shortening installation schedules, and reducing project complexity. The skid is available in capacities ranging from 32 to 600 m³/h, and all PureBallast 3 Ultra systems, including the skid version, are delivered connectivity-ready, enabling remote monitoring and optimized service support throughout the vessel's lifetime.

Type-approved by IMO and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), the PureBallast 3 Ultra Skid is designed for ballast water treatment across all water salinities. Building upon Alfa Laval's two decades of experience and the company's continued investment in the ballast water management segment, the PureBallast 3 Ultra Skid expands on the strong market success of PureBallast 3 Ultra and nearly two decades of expertise gained from thousands of systems sold, installed, and serviced.
