A hacked Walmart account left this Florida woman $2,000 in the hole. Now she's accusing Walmart of reversing her refund

Florida woman Colleen German is seeking answers and reimbursement from Walmart following a hack of her account. The incident resulted in $2,000 in unauthorized grocery charges, causing financial strain for the family. Initially, German alerted Walmart about the fraud, but the fraudulent orders were picked up and charged 45 minutes later.

Walmart subsequently flagged the incident as fraud and advised German to contact her credit card company for a refund. However, the credit card reversal was itself reversed, leaving German frustrated and demanding Walmart's assistance in recovering her money. Walmart's spokesperson stated their commitment to helping prevent fraud and working with law enforcement.

The company's advice aligns with contacting the bank or credit card issuer to dispute fraudulent charges. Despite German promptly informing her credit card company, she does not owe any money. However, the issue of Walmart account takeover fraud remains a concern, with a 427% increase in 2023 alone. Aura, a digital security company, recommends victims contact Walmart via chat, inform local police, change passwords on other accounts, and contact their financial institution or credit card issuer.

Walmart declined to provide additional information about their efforts to reduce account takeover fraud.
