4 kids visited a waterfall. 10 days later, all died

Four siblings from the same family, including three minors, tragically passed away within a span of 10 days after falling ill following a visit to a waterfall near Gora Tila in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri, officials revealed on Wednesday. The health department has launched an investigation, but the precise cause of their deaths remains undetermined, according to a PTI report.

The four children exhibited identical symptoms, commencing with a fever and progressing to stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. Their health rapidly declined. Local residents and family members suspect that the contaminated water at the waterfall might be connected to the illness, although this has not been officially confirmed by authorities.

The family claims that the children bathed at the waterfall on August 16. The fatalities occurred between August 21 and August 31. A health department team visited the affected family on Tuesday, collecting samples from the relatives. Officials are scrutinizing the children's medical and treatment records, as well as test reports, to ascertain the cause of their deaths.

District Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sanjay Rishishwar also visited the family, stating that initial findings suggested an infection could have been the culprit. The children's platelet counts plummeted swiftly, leading to multiple organ failures in one case. Samples were taken from all family members.

Autopsies on the four children have not been conducted yet, according to officials. Three of the victims were brothers: Tahir, Tanveer Ahmed's 14-year-old son, was the first to fall ill, developing a fever on August 18, followed by vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. His condition deteriorated, and he succumbed to the illness two days later. His platelet count dropped rapidly during treatment.

The family's misfortune continued when Ayaz, the 19-year-old son of Tanveer Ahmed's sister, fell ill. Ayaz was first admitted to Shivpuri District Hospital; however, as his condition worsened, he was transferred to Gwalior for treatment. He unfortunately passed away on August 23, based on his relatives' accounts. Family members noted that tests conducted during his treatment revealed an infection.

Two additional brothers, Taruf, 9, and Tasif, 11, developed fever and their health deteriorated despite hospital treatment. Taruf tragically died on the morning of August 31, followed by Tasif the same day.
