2027: I’m ready to die protecting my vote – Obi

Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed his readiness to sacrifice his life to safeguard his vote in the upcoming 2027 election. At a town hall meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Obi cautioned Nigerians against repeating the "irregularities" observed during the 2023 general election.

During that election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) faced issues with the electronic upload of results due to the alleged malfunction of IReV. Obi and his opponent, Atiku Abubakar, both ran under different parties and ultimately rejected the declaration of President Bola Tinubu's victory, taking their case to court. However, the court upheld Tinubu's election win.

At the "Obi Talks Nigeria" event, Obi vowed that those attempting to manipulate the upcoming election would fail. He urged his supporters to cast their vote without fear, as intimidation would not succeed. He stated, "Nobody will intimidate us again at the polling booth. If you get to any polling booth today, the highest number of officials you see is five.

The average number of voters is 40 to 50. There is no way five people will intimidate 50 people." Obi pledged to ensure coordination to prevent intimidation and assured that if any network issues arise, alternative IReVs will be provided to ensure a smooth electoral process.

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the NDC Vice Presidential Candidate, called upon voters to learn from past mistakes. Despite the All Progressives Congress (APC) currently controlling numerous states, he believes the party will still lose the next election. Kwankwaso emphasized the importance of electing competent leaders capable of addressing the country's challenges. He cautioned that making the same errors as before would have severe consequences for both the people and the nation.
