2027: ADC vows to resist illegality, intimidation in Rivers

The Rivers State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has pledged to oppose any unlawful activities and intimidation during the upcoming 2027 general elections. The party declared it would not abstain from any part of the voting process, regardless of what they deem as "regrettable and provocative" decisions made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the region. This statement was made by the ADC's State Publicity Secretary, Chizy Enyi, in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Enyi emphasized the party's readiness to stand firm against any perceived illegality intended to undermine the people's political choice. Despite concerns about the transparency of INEC in ensuring a fair election, the ADC chose not to boycott the polls. In his statement, Enyi cautioned against the party's decision to abstain from participating in the electoral process, stating that they are prepared to resist any form of illegality at the polls to ensure that the will of the people is not undermined by INEC, any political party, or the Rainbow Coalition.

Enyi also raised concerns over recent administrative changes within INEC, specifically questioning the sudden transfer of key electoral officers across local government areas in the state. According to the ADC, information suggests that seven officials were reassigned from Rivers State, raising questions about the legitimacy of this decision. Enyi requested clarification from INEC, asking if this decision was unique to the state or if it was a national issue as well.
