2 Korean officials named World Customs Organization-certified experts

Two Korean officials have been named World Customs Organization-certified experts, the Korea Customs Service announced on Wednesday. The officials are Kim Kye-yeong, an IT specialist, and Kim Kwan-woo, a customs chief at Gimhae Airport Customs. They received their accreditation on August 25 for their roles as technical and operational advisors, respectively, in the areas of single window systems and data analytics.

Currently, there are nine KCS officials serving as WCO Accredited Experts. WCO Accredited Experts are customs officials from member countries who have demonstrated professional expertise and practical capabilities, earning official certification from the WCO. They contribute to the organization's efforts to build capacity in customs administration and take part in various training, technical assistance, and advisory activities.

To become a WCO Accredited Expert, candidates must first undergo document screening and then participate in a workshop. During the workshop, their expertise is evaluated through presentations, discussions, and other activities. Those who receive positive evaluations subsequently engage in further training and advisory work.
