17-year-old gangraped inside moving bus: Driver, conductor hired without police verification, say police

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped inside a moving bus traveling from Greater Noida to Old Delhi. The bus driver, Kuldeep (39), and conductor, Sandeep (26), had not undergone police verification, raising concerns about the hiring process of the private bus service. The service operates at least a dozen buses, and the police are investigating the company's hiring procedures and lack of checks.

The bus had 11 pending traffic challans, including violations of retroreflective tape, speed limit devices, driving without a permit or permit conditions, and adhering to speed limits. The CCTV camera inside the bus was not functioning, and heavy curtains were covering the windows, obstructing outside views. Despite these issues, the bus was not stopped for any safety or compliance checks during the journey.

The police are examining the bus for GPS or vehicle-tracking systems and functional panic buttons, as they prepare the case for a fast-track court.
