Williams sisters start US Open doubles vs. Maya Joint, Hao-Ching Chan

Serena and Venus Williams will take on Maya Joint and Hao-Ching Chan in the first round of the US Open women's doubles championship, according to the United States Tennis Association. The 44-year-old Serena made a wild card appearance in singles at Wimbledon, but suffered a knee injury that forced her withdrawal from doubles alongside Venus.

The Williams sisters, who have clinched the US Open doubles title twice, entered the main draw as wild cards. Their previous collaboration at this tournament was in 2022, where they exited in the first round against Linda Nosková and Lucie Hradecká. The sisters last teamed up for a doubles match since that 2022 event during the Cincinnati Masters on August 17, but lost a nail-biting first-round contest to Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns.

Both Serena and Venus will be making their second appearance in New York, with Serena pairing up with Carlos Alcaraz in mixed doubles, advancing to the quarterfinals, while Venus suffered a first-round singles loss to Sofia Kenin. The tournament's top seed is Taylor Townsend and Kateřina Siniaková, who lost last year's final to Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe.

This time, Routliffe will join forces with Aldila Sutjiadi as the No. 9 seed, while Dabrowski will team up with Luisa Stefani as the No. 2 seed.
