Wall Street panicked over AI. Then came an 8-figure cybersecurity twist

Every industry that faces obsolescence finds a new customer in the technology that threatens it. This week, cybersecurity became the unexpected beneficiary of the AI revolution. CrowdStrike Holdings (CRWD) experienced its best quarter ever after an AI model from Anthropic caused panic among investors. CrowdStrike's stock fell after it was revealed that Anthropic inadvertently exposed internal documents detailing an unreleased model called Claude Mythos.

The model was said to be capable of discovering software vulnerabilities that human researchers had missed for decades. Investors feared that AI could replace CrowdStrike's products, causing the company's shares to drop. However, CrowdStrike's earnings report revealed a 26% increase in revenue year over year, with net new annual recurring revenue hitting a record $333 million.

CEO George Kurtz attributed the surge to the realization that AI adoption requires security, which is where CrowdStrike excels. The same week, Kurtz disclosed an eight-figure deal with a frontier AI lab, inverting the initial fear that AI would disrupt CrowdStrike. Instead, the companies capable of building AI models like Claude Mythos are becoming its customers.

CrowdStrike's Falcon Flex subscription model contributed to the company's $2.29 billion in annual recurring revenue, doubling year-over-year. Other rival security stocks also rallied alongside CrowdStrike, with Okta, Palo Alto Networks, Zscaler, and Rubrik each gaining at least 10%. Analysts are cautiously optimistic about CrowdStrike's growth, with Truist raising its price target to $300 from $245 while keeping a buy rating.

However, some analysts, like Junaid Siddiqui, want a clearer roadmap before considering the growth durable.
