Vancouver Whitecaps continue chase for historic fifth Canadian Championship title

The Vancouver Whitecaps are on a mission to secure their historic fifth Canadian Championship title as they prepare to face CF Montreal in the first leg of a two-game semifinal series. The Whitecaps have won the Voyageurs Cup four consecutive years and are aiming to become the first team to ever collect five in a row.

Goalkeeper Isaac Boehmer acknowledged that every team wants to defeat the champions, but his team is ready to defend their title. Striker Brian White, who has won four Canadian Championships with the Whitecaps, emphasized that winning back-to-back titles is already tough, let alone five in a row.

Vancouver currently leads the MLS Western Conference standings with a record of 13-4-4 following a 3-0 road victory over Sporting Kansas City. Montreal, on the other hand, sits second-to-last in the Eastern Conference after a 7-1 loss to Inter Miami, where Lionel Messi scored four goals.

Montreal's head coach, Jesper Sorensen, acknowledged that the Canadian Championship is an opportunity for his team to achieve something worthwhile in the season. Both teams overcame Canadian Premier League sides in this year's quarterfinals, with the Whitecaps defeating Cavalry FC 5-2 on aggregate and Montreal topping Vancouver FC 4-2 over two legs.

The other semifinal features two CPL teams, FC Supra du Quebec and Forge FC of Hamilton, who drew 1-1 in their opener. As competition for the Voyageurs Cup strengthens year-over-year, Whitecaps goalkeeper Boehmer highlighted the growth of Canadian soccer and its impact on the league's development.
