Uzbekistan turns past to narrative for future

Tashkent, Uzbekistan witnessed a grand celebration on the eve of the country's 35th anniversary of independence. Hundreds of drones took to the sky, forming intricate moving images during the festivities. The open-air venue echoed with music as Uzbek dancers and musicians performed alongside international stars such as British soprano Sarah Brightman, Italian tenor Alessandro Safina, and Spanish tenor José Carreras.

The evening was further enhanced by giant 3D projections, robotics, lighting effects, and an aerial display, creating a captivating blend of history, technology, and spectacle. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the ceremony and addressed the crowd, outlining a bold national plan for the coming decade. While the country's official Independence Day is celebrated on September 1st, this year's main festivities were held a few days earlier.

Over a week prior, from August 24th to 29th, Tashkent and Samarkand had been hosting an international media forum titled "Islamic Civilization: A New Perspective," aimed at shaping the country's image on the global stage.
