Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated on September 1, 2026 that the United States will hold approximately 80 percent of global computing power by 2028, as it solidifies its position as the world's leading Artificial Intelligence (AI) superpower. This projection represents a significant increase from the 60 percent share of global computing capacity that the US held in 2025.

Bessent attributed this surge in US AI dominance to the policies of President Donald Trump, emphasizing that regulatory, tax, and energy policies have created a more stable environment for businesses to invest in factories, technology, and infrastructure. He highlighted that the administration's economic program focuses on ensuring regulatory, tax, and energy certainty for businesses.

In addition to its leadership in AI, the US is also benefiting from its robust energy sector as a major producer and exporter. Bessent noted that AI is no longer confined to the technology sector but is now being integrated into various industries such as manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and supply-chain management. He pointed out that private-sector representatives actively participated in a G20 session during the North Carolina meetings, discussing how they are incorporating AI into their respective operations.

The transformation is still in its early stages, but Bessent believes it will contribute to job creation and industrial expansion. He emphasized that the US is just beginning to witness the full potential of AI's impact on employment and industrial growth.
