US Mint releases $1 coins featuring Trump

On Wednesday, the United States Mint introduced 250,000 $1 coins depicting President Donald Trump to celebrate the country’s 250th anniversary. These coins, now in circulation, can be received as change when making purchases. Designed by Chief Engraver Joseph Menna, they feature Trump’s portrait alongside the Presidential Seal on the reverse, which includes a shield with the inscription "250" to mark the Semiquincentennial.

The coins, made from non-precious metals, are available in rolls of 25 for $61 or bags of 100 for $154.50, with some special-issue coins marked "July 4th" due to their minting on Independence Day. The Mint reported high demand, activating a virtual waiting room on its website due to overwhelming traffic. Federal law previously prohibited living individuals from appearing on US currency, but the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020 permitted coins commemorating the country’s bicentennial.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized that the coin honors American values and the nation’s commitment to freedom.
