US judge rules alleged Charlie Kirk killer to stand trial

A US judge has ruled that Tyler James Robinson, the man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk, will stand trial for murder. According to prosecutors, there is sufficient evidence to proceed with the case. Robinson, 23, faces the possibility of the death penalty in Utah for allegedly shooting Kirk in the neck during a rally on a college campus on September 10, 2022.

The judge's decision follows a preliminary hearing where both sides presented arguments about the trial's proceeding. The prosecution argued that video game chats and text messages from Robinson proved he killed Kirk due to his frustration with the hate spread by the influencer. The defense, however, primarily focused on questioning the validity of DNA evidence linking Robinson to the murder weapon.

Robinson has pleaded not guilty to the charges, as reported by US media. The right-wing youth organization, Turning Point, which Kirk's organization was part of, planned the event where Kirk was killed. Kirk's wife, Erika Kirk, expressed relief at the decision, stating that it marks an important step in their pursuit of justice for him.
