Ukraine seeks Thai support as war enters another winter

Bangkok, 31 August 2026 - Ukraine has called on Thailand to offer additional humanitarian aid, including generators for power and medical equipment, as the country braces for another winter while facing ongoing Russian assaults on its energy infrastructure. Viktor Semenov, Ukraine’s Chargé d’Affaires in Thailand, expressed gratitude to Thailand for its ongoing support, highlighting the necessity of maintaining international collaboration.

Semenov highlighted that Thailand has been providing yearly humanitarian and energy-related assistance, mentioning that generators, power equipment, and medical machinery requested by Ukrainian hospitals were areas where Thailand could further contribute. As per Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukraine has received approximately 26 million baht in humanitarian aid from Thailand through various societies and the United Nations Children’s Fund.

This aid proved crucial during one of Ukraine’s coldest winters in over a decade. With Russian attacks on heating and energy infrastructure becoming more intense, further assistance would be vital heading into winter. Semenov also welcomed Thailand’s involvement in international conferences on Ukraine’s recovery and encouraged Bangkok to join the “Bring Kids Back” initiative aimed at repatriating illegally deported Ukrainian children.

He urged the Thai public to "believe in Ukraine, freedom and independence." Semenov delivered this message to the Thai public, urging people to support Ukraine and its principles of international law and the UN Charter. Encouragement from Thai individuals Semenov met was a significant source of hope for Ukraine. Additionally, Ukraine seeks increased Thai investment for post-war reconstruction efforts.
