Uber says laying off 'about 10%' of workforce worldwide

Uber has announced plans to lay off approximately 10 percent of its global workforce as part of major organizational transformations, according to CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. The company, which employs around 34,000 people across more than 70 countries, says the reductions are intended to streamline operations and accelerate decision-making.

Khosrowshahi emphasized that the changes would create clearer ownership within the organization, enable faster decision-making, and allow more resources to focus on building rather than coordination. Among the affected regions, Uber is shutting down its operations in Nigeria and Uganda, following a previous exit from Tanzania. The company's restructuring comes amid ongoing criticism from drivers regarding fair compensation and vehicle usage across various markets worldwide.
