Two arrested after newborn found in sanitary bin at Penang airport

Two individuals, a 23-year-old woman and a 22-year-old Myanmar man working as a security guard, have been arrested at Penang International Airport following the discovery of a newborn baby in a sanitary bin. The baby, believed to have been born shortly before being found, was alive when police took custody. The woman was apprehended at Kompleks Bukit Jambul, while the Myanmar national was detained to aid the ongoing investigation.

Police found the man lacking valid travel documents. Forensic analysis of the scene and collected samples is underway. The incident is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code, which pertains to the abandonment of a child under 12 by a parent or caregiver. Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Anuwal Ab Wahab urged the public to refrain from speculating or spreading unverified information that could impede the police investigation.
