Tumbler Ridge shooting survivors among 30 new plaintiffs suing OpenAI

Thirty new plaintiffs have joined 37 existing lawsuits against OpenAI following the tragic school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, B.C. in February. The shooting left eight people dead and survivors include educators, a principal, and students, such as 13-year-old A.C. who witnessed the shooting firsthand. A.C. described how he played dead among his classmates as they were killed by 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar, who had previously been banned from OpenAI for violating usage policies.

Legal team member Jay Edelson stated they are seeking full disclosure of chat logs and internal documents related to the shooter's identification as a threat and why OpenAI decided not to report him to authorities. The plaintiffs are demanding full disclosure and specific injunctive relief to prevent another Tumbler Ridge from occurring.
