Tukaram Mundhe's FDA crackdown continues: Box8, Mojo Pizza parent EatClub's Mumbai outlet loses licence—here's why

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA), led by IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe, has suspended the licence of Box8, a subsidiary of Eatclub Brands Private Limited, at Royal Palms in Aarey Milk Colony, Mumbai. The suspension, effective from September 2, was due to violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The FDA found issues such as inadequate food storage, poor hygiene, and insufficient pest control.

Additionally, employees were not provided with necessary protective gear, and there were concerns over annual medical examinations and consumer complaint handling. Another facility, Rani Diets Consultant and Service Providers in Kurla West, also faced suspension after FDA inspectors discovered rodent activity, unhygienic conditions, and improper waste disposal.

Raw meat was found uncovered in refrigerators, and items lacked proper labeling. Similarly, Goodluck Bakery and Stores, Chembur, and Ashfaque Bakery, Chembur, are under scrutiny for multiple violations, including food storage, pest control, water quality, hygiene, and employee health records. In Navi Mumbai, FDA officials seized products from Sadhana Enterprises after finding altered expiry and use-by dates on packaged foods like Lay’s potato chips and Maggi, along with other brands. Over 8,442 cartons worth ₹75,21,269 were seized, along with expired products valued around ₹30,600.
