Tugboat sinks off South Korea’s southern coast, leaving 1 dead and 6 missing

On Wednesday morning, a 286-ton tugboat set sail from Busan, South Korea's southeastern city, to tow a merchant vessel. Accompanied by eight crew members, the vessel encountered disaster when it capsized and sank off the southeastern coast of South Korea. The coast guard reported that one crew member, an Indonesian national, was rescued by the merchant vessel following the capsizing incident.

Another crew member, a South Korean, was found unconscious by coast guard rescuers and later declared dead at a hospital on the mainland. The remaining six crew members are currently missing and search efforts are ongoing. President Lee Jae Myung has directed authorities to mobilize all available resources to aid in the rescue mission. The cause of the capsizing remains unknown at this time.
