Trabzonspor part ways with coach Tekke

Trabzonspor have terminated their contract with head coach Fatih Tekke following his resignation, which the club had initially declined. The 48-year-old coach submitted his resignation after the Turkish club was eliminated from the Europa League play-off round by Hungarian side Ferencvaros, losing 5-0 on aggregate. Trabzonspor initially rejected the request, believing it was made under emotional duress from the European exit.

However, the club later confirmed they had reached a mutual understanding with Tekke to end their partnership for the club's long-term benefit. Over his 18-month tenure, Tekke significantly contributed to Trabzonspor, developing players, achieving sporting and financial gains, and finally winning the Turkish Cup, a trophy the club had sought for a long time.

Tekke's departure comes after discussions with the coach, who assured that his presence would not harm the club. Trabzonspor, who finished third in the Turkish Super Lig under Tekke last season, will continue their European campaign in the Europa Conference League, facing Scottish club Hearts among others. The club made several high-profile signings during the summer, including former Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah and Fabinho, as well as Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana on loan.

Salah, who joined Trabzonspor after leaving Liverpool, scored 257 goals in 442 appearances during his time at Anfield after moving from Roma in 2017.
