Tiger kills labourer at Nahargarh Park enclosure, official suspended

On Wednesday morning, a 42-year-old labourer named Sugna Devi was killed by a tiger at Jaipur's Nahargarh Biological Park. Devi and several other women labourers had entered an enclosure to cut grass when tiger Shivaji's cage inside the enclosure accidentally opened, releasing the tiger. Sugna's sister, Kamla, stated that the tiger attacked and killed her after she threw the grass she was carrying and ran towards the group, trying to escape through the fence.

However, Sugna was pulled down by the tiger and mauled to death while climbing the fence. Despite multiple attempts to escape, five women climbed the fence and one woman climbed a tree to safety. The deputy conservator of forests, Dr Ashish Vyas, revealed that the cage was opened by Hansa, the in-charge of the Tiger Enclosure, who has been suspended due to negligence and failure to follow safety protocols.

Vyas has appointed an assistant conservator of forests-level officer to investigate the incident thoroughly, examining CCTV footage, security arrangements, and compliance with safety protocols. Following the tragedy, the administration and forest department officials have met with Devi's family and villagers, offering support and assistance as per the rules.

Vyas also announced a review of all security arrangements at the park and promised to strengthen them if necessary.
