The Jets’ search for a kicker seems to be continuing

The New York Jets continue their quest to find a suitable kicker for their roster, following recent developments in their search. The team acquired Blake Gruppe off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts earlier in the week, while veteran kicker Jason Sanders was released and subsequently placed on the practice squad. According to Ian Rapoport, the Jets are actively investigating options at the position.

Free agent kicker Josh Karty, who played for the Rams in the past two seasons, is currently working out for the Jets. Karty, who was a standout kicker at Stanford and twice selected as a First Team All-American, was drafted in the sixth round by the Rams in 2024. However, Karty's rookie season was solid, but he struggled in 2025, connecting on only 10 of 15 attempts.

This led the Rams to replace him with Harrison Mevis, who had spent training camp with the Jets in 2025. Karty subsequently signed with the Cardinals before being released in June. Recently, special teams coach Chris Banjo declared that the kicking competition within the Jets had concluded, with Jason Sanders having won the position.

However, just one week later, the Jets have acquired a different kicker on the roster and are still actively searching for an alternative. It now appears that the team's designated opening day kicker has yet to be confirmed.
