Thailand welcomes 5,000 US sailors after months at sea

Around 5,000 US sailors and marines docked in Thailand for five days, arriving in Pattaya after a 286-day deployment at sea. The USS Abraham Lincoln's crew was excited to return to land, eager for a break from their duties. The arrival was met with enthusiasm from the locals, with women sporting revealing sailor outfits parading down the street.

However, the mayor urged visitors to appreciate Pattaya's other attractions, such as sports, wellness, beaches, and malls. The sailors were given a traditional garland during a welcoming ceremony at a central hotel, where they expressed their appreciation for the rest and relaxation. Pattaya's mayor estimated the sailors could bring up to 100 million baht (€2.6 million) to the city during their stay, benefiting businesses during the low season.

Security measures were increased in the city, and authorities strictly enforced limits on water sports and cannabis use.
