Ted Lasso continues to fumble most of its female leads

Ted Lasso continues to struggle with handling its female characters, particularly in season four. Alice Chilton, the new assistant coach, experiences embarrassment when she realizes how close Ted has become with the players she's known for longer. Instead of addressing this rationally, Alice lashes out, creating tension between her and Ted.

This situation contrasts with the show's lack of focus on the Lady Greyhounds' players, leaving viewers with little insight into their personal lives. Season four's storyline delves into unnecessary drama, such as Jane's manipulative behavior and Keeley's portrayal as a bumbling damsel in distress. The writing seems to aim for conflict to drive the plot, but it often falls flat, especially with Rebecca's wavering relationship with Matthijs.

Alice's subplot also provides little value to the overall story. While Keeley and Rebecca's arcs are well-acted by Juno Temple and Rebecca, the forced relationship dynamics and lack of development in other aspects of the show make the season feel disjointed and unfulfilling. Ted's attempts at motivation and coaching are also inconsistent, as he continues to focus on himself rather than the team.

Despite a few standout performances, such as Alice's character progression and the Lady Greyhounds' occasional success, the season overall leaves much to be desired.
