Syringes, Blood-Stained Dressings Dumped In Open At Bhopal’s JP Hospital; BMC Orders Legal Action

Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has filed legal charges against CEDMAP, the housekeeping agency responsible for managing Jayaprakash Hospital (1250). This action follows the discovery of biomedical waste, including syringes, blood-stained dressings, and wrappers, mixed with general waste and scattered in an open area adjacent to the hospital entrance.

During an inspection on Wednesday, BMC officials reported finding the refuse near the hospital gate, prompting them to inform Hospital Superintendent Dr. Sanjay Jain of the violation. In response, BMC officials requested the hospital administration to summon representatives from CEDMAP, instructing them to rectify the situation and pay the imposed fine.

Despite the superintendent's attempts to contact the agency by phone, no representative or employee arrived at the scene, nor did CEDMAP agree to pay the fine. Following this incident, municipal commissioner Sanskriti Jain directed corporation officials to initiate legal proceedings against CEDMAP for violating waste-management regulations, warning that the negligence could pose serious health and infection risks to sanitation workers.
