Suspects arrested over Ksh169,000 M-Pesa heist

Police have apprehended three suspects involved in the theft of Ksh169,000 from an M-Pesa shop in Katangi, Yatta Sub-County. Ben Mutuku, the first suspect to be arrested, was taken into custody at Katangi Shopping Centre based on information provided by the public. The investigation was later widened to Yathui in Mwala Sub-County, leading to the arrest of Simon Makau and Samuel Mbolu.

Both Makau and Mbolu were found in a white Toyota Corolla with the registration number KDU 164G when they were apprehended. During the operation, police recovered an M-Pesa till phone that was stolen from the attendant during the incident, which took place on May 15. The three suspects are currently in police custody, awaiting further processing and arraignment in court. The vehicle and the stolen phone have been preserved as evidence as the investigation proceeds.
