South Korean Patriot Analogs: How Ukraine Could Close The Air Defense Gap

Russian forces are altering their air assault strategies against Ukraine, prolonging the attacks to deplete air defense capabilities and strike civilian targets. Col (Ret.) Vaidotas Malionis, an expert from Lithuania, stated that the length of enemy assaults on Kyiv is setting new records, with the longest being 28 hours. He warned that Russia is developing innovative methods to exhaust Ukraine's air defenses, not merely targeting infrastructure but also civilians.

As winter approaches, Malionis stressed the critical need for Ukraine to enhance its air defense systems. He highlighted South Korea as a promising source, as the country manufactures proficient air defense systems similar to Patriot. Malionis emphasized that while Russia refrains from direct military conflict with NATO, it is extensively involved in a gray zone, targeting Ukrainian facilities involved in weapon production for Kyiv and logistics centers.

He attributed the surge in hybrid attacks, including arson, sabotage, and drone assaults carrying munitions, to Russia's perception of Europe as a threat to its aggression due to the support provided to Ukraine.
