Selena Quintanilla’s Brother Alludes to Legal Action Against Sister Suzette: ‘Many Things Will Be Made Clear’

A.B. Quintanilla III, the brother of the late Tejano star Selena, hinted at potential legal action against his sister Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga on Instagram on September 1, 2021. In a subsequent post on September 2, he stated that Suzette had been notified of a lawsuit against her, accompanied by a redacted screenshot of what appears to be a cease-and-desist letter.

The letter allegedly states that Suzette has shown "utter disregard for her fiduciary duties to the Estate’s beneficiaries." According to his second Instagram post, Suzette and their mother, Marcella Quintanilla, denied receiving a court-filed complaint and claimed they could not locate a public case matching A.B.'s description.

A.B. insisted he did not lie and alleged that Suzette and her lawyers received certified mail and email with the corresponding documents, but she did not provide the requested contracts, documentation, and financial information. Billboard was unable to find any U.S. court filings in searches of various court records, including Los Angeles, New York, Delaware, and federal courts, as well as Nueces County, Texas, where the Quintanilla family is based and where Abraham Quintanilla Jr.'s probate case was docketed.

A.B. stated that he made the dispute public after receiving numerous calls and inquiries, and that the process had been ongoing for months but stemmed from years of accumulated situations, decisions, and circumstances within the family. He emphasized that there are facts, evidence, circumstances, and unknown elements that will be made clear when his lawyer speaks on September 4.

Suzette and Marcella Quintanilla responded, denying any theft by Suzette and stating that she has not misappropriated or improperly taken money or property belonging to A.B., Abraham, Marcella, Chris, Selena's estate, or any family-owned or jointly owned business. They also mentioned that Suzette is not selling or intends to sell Selena's personal belongings.

Despite these denials, there have been various legal battles related to Selena's estate over the years, such as Abraham's lawsuit against Pérez in 2016 for an unauthorized TV adaptation of his memoir To Selena, With Love.
