Ruto Bids Farewell to French Ambassador Arnaud Suquet After Four Years in Kenya

President William Ruto bid farewell to outgoing French Ambassador to Kenya, Arnaud Suquet, after four years of service at the country's helm. The President hosted Suquet at State House, Nairobi, as the diplomat's tenure came to an end. In a social media post, Ruto wished Suquet well in his new role at the French Foreign Ministry.

Ruto highlighted the significant strides in diplomatic and economic ties between Kenya and France in recent years. The two countries signed 11 bilateral agreements during Suquet's tenure, including a Sh12.5 billion upgrade to the Nairobi Commuter Rail, a science complex at the University of Nairobi, and an aviation fuel project.

Suquet, who began learning Kiswahili during his time in Kenya, also made efforts to understand the country's culture and language. He particularly enjoyed Kenyan methali, or proverbs, which he found to be a source of wisdom. Suquet, a seasoned diplomat, has previously held diplomatic positions in Sudan, Ethiopia, and at the European Union.

He is dedicated to advancing France's foreign policy and strengthening bilateral relations with Kenya and Somalia. As Suquet prepared to leave Kenya, he reflected on his four years in the country and the strong bonds he had built. Nairobi's welcoming character and vibrant urban culture were among the aspects he would miss the most.
