Russians attack energy facilities in Kharkiv region more than 50 times

In the Kharkiv region, Russian forces have struck energy facilities over 50 times, as reported by Oleksandr Kyshynskyi, deputy technical director for electrical distribution networks at JSC “Kharkivoblenergo.” Kyshynskyi noted that some facilities have been targeted multiple times, with restoration work halted in some cases to prevent further damage.

The region is currently constructing protective structures around facilities, with assistance from the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration. Gabions provide protection against shrapnel, but the Russian weapons used in the attacks can penetrate such structures. The Kharkiv region is receiving humanitarian aid to help restore damaged facilities, including expensive equipment like circuit breakers and transformers that can take 6-9 months to manufacture.

Kyshynskyi stated that repairing damaged equipment can be challenging, as sometimes minor damage can be fixed, but other times replacement is necessary. The regional power company is also installing transformers provided by Australia to mitigate the consequences of attacks on specific sections of the grid. International partners, including China and the Red Cross, have provided aid, with China sending 38 transformers and the Red Cross providing excavators and drill-and-crane machines.

In July, Russian drone strikes targeted the Valkivskyi Regional Electric Network, destroying a tower, two drill-and-crane rigs, a passenger car, and damaging multiple vehicles. The total value of aid provided to the Kharkiv region exceeds 1.2 million euros.
